JAMIE READ PGCERT EMT MISM - ARTISTIC DIRECTORJamie Read, the co-founder of leading performing arts sixth form and foundation school, READ College, is to step down after 14 years as Artistic Director. The college, based in Reading, was founded in 2008, becoming a registered charity in 2011 with a focus on supporting under-represented and disadvantaged young people to get onto the training ladder.

The college Principal, Helen Read, said:

“After 14 years, Jamie will be standing down as Artistic Director and will be moving to a non-executive role on the Board of Trustees. He will still be very much involved in supporting the college as a director and helping to steer the future of the organisation, but will be leaving his full-time position to focus on new ventures. Obviously, this decision has taken many months of thought and reflection and myself, the Board of Trustees, and the Senior Leadership Team have all been involved in carefully planning for the stability and continuity of the college. Jamie will be hugely missed, and we would like to take this opportunity to share our affection and appreciation for the hard work and dedication he has given to the life of the college over the years.”

On announcing his plans to depart the college, Jamie Read said:

“It has been a great privilege to do this job and be a small part of supporting hundreds of young people on their journey. I will miss the team at READ College enormously, but I have no doubt that now is the right time for us to bring in new leadership talent with a fresh energy to ensure that we continue to challenge and innovate as we have always done. I am really excited to see READ College continue its mission, both in the full-time training it delivers, and through our nationwide Access to The Arts™ outreach and funding programme, and to support that work whole-heartedly from the Board of Trustees.”

He added:

“I am so proud of everything that we have created and achieved at READ College, and I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the whole team for their support on this incredible journey. I know the college will continue to go from strength to strength with Helen as its Principal, and a new Artistic Director joining the team to inspire our creativity and bring fresh perspectives.”

Read will formally leave his post on September 2nd, before the start of the new academic year.

Applications for the post of Artistic Director are now being accepted, with the college keen to hear from applicants who can bring new perspectives and experiences to the executive team.
