After months of planning, we have some very exciting news that we are delighted to share with you all… READ College is moving to an amazing new home at the heart of the Arts community in Reading!
As from September this year, we will be located in the newly-created St Bart’s Theatre, at Palmer Park, just east of Reading town centre. A beautiful 19th century Church building, St Bart’s will not only be a spectacular home for READ, but it will also be a new centre for the Arts in Reading, with professional touring shows using the space as a performance and rehearsal venue, and also giving us the chance to expand our outreach work further into the local community.
The building will be undergoing something of a transformation over July and August, with new toilets and changing facilities being built and created created, a state-of-the-art, 90sq metre sprung dance floor being laid in the main space, and portable mirrors and barres creating an extraordinary training and performance venue.
As well as having our main studio, office, student and staff facilities at St Bart’s, we will also be using several existing studios which are a 5 minute walk across Palmer Park. This second space, the Park building (the rehearsal space for Reading’s Progress Theatre company), will accommodate many of the drama and voice classes on our curriculum, and being just a short hop away across the park we will be operating as a mini-campus!
We are so excited that – in time for the Year of Culture being celebrated in Reading in 2016 – READ College will be based in such a fantastic venue, so close to both the town centre and the Arts community in Reading. As the theatre and the college continue to grow and develop together, we look forward to a wonderful partnership helping, to make the Arts accessible for all in Reading… and beyond!
