Sophia Nomvete

READ College / Access to The Arts is delighted to announce that award winning stage and screen actor, Sophia Nomvete, has agreed to become an ambassador for our work. After training originally in Reading under READ’s co-founder, Jamie Read, Sophia has had a stellar career and has done so much to champion access and diversity in the Performing Arts, which is a cause at the centre of the work that we do.

Sophia graduated from Arts Educational Schools London (ArtsEd) in 2006 with a BA honours in Musical Theatre and has remained deeply passionate about theatre ever since. She has starred in a number of acclaimed stage productions, including ‘Miss Littlewood’ (RSC), ‘Vice Versa’ (RSC) and ‘England People Very Nice’ (Royal National Theatre). She also played the leading role of Miss Sofia, alongside Cynthia Erivo in the European premiere of ‘The Color Purple’ (Menier Chocolate Factory) for which she was nominated for a WhatsOnStage ‘Best Supporting Actress’ award and ‘Best Supporting Role in a Musical’ award.

Sophia will next be seen in Amazon Studios’ highly anticipated ‘Lord of The Rings’.

As an ambassador for READ and Access to The Arts, Sophia will be helping us to spread the word about our work. As well as the full time training offered at READ, this work also includes our nationwide Widening Participation & Outreach programme which engages with over 2,500 young people per year all over the UK. We are absolutely delighted to have someone of Sophia’s experience, profile, warm-heartedness and generosity to represent us to the wider world!
